How to get your motorcycle released from an LTA or police compound
If your motorcycle has been towed to an LTA or police compound, the order of operations matters: the compound releases the bike first, and only then can anyone — including a towing company — take it away. Here's the process in plain language.
1. Get your release documents from the compound authority
The compound holds the motorcycle, and only the compound authority can release it. Contact them and get their list of required release documents — they'll confirm exactly what's needed for your case. Bring your identification, and ask them whether an authorised person can collect on your behalf if you can't be there yourself.
2. Settle any fees directly with the compound
If the compound charges storage or release fees, those are settled directly between you and the compound authority. A towing company doesn't process or pay compound fees — and you should be cautious of anyone who offers to, because the paperwork still has to be in your name.
3. Arrange collection once the bike is released
Once the motorcycle is officially releasable, a towing service can collect it from the compound and deliver it to your home, workshop or any agreed destination. We handle compound and impound collections islandwide — tell us the compound, the bike model, and where it's going, and we quote before the truck rolls.
What we handle — and what we don't
- We do: collecting a released motorcycle from the compound, loading and securing it properly, and delivering it to your chosen destination — quoted clearly upfront.
- We don't: process compound paperwork, pay or negotiate compound fees, or collect a bike that hasn't been officially released. The documents side is between you (or your authorised person) and the compound authority.
Tip for a smooth collection: book the tow for after your release appointment, and tell the operator about any compound access rules (visitor procedures, collection hours, vehicle entry requirements) so the truck arrives at the right time with the right paperwork on your side done.
Frequently asked questions
Can a towing company collect my bike directly from the compound?
Yes — once the compound has released the motorcycle, a towing service can collect it from the compound and deliver it to you or your workshop. The bike must be officially releasable before we can take it.
Do I have to be there in person to release the bike?
That depends on the compound authority's own requirements — ask them directly what identification and documents they need, and whether an authorised person can collect on your behalf.
What documents do I need to get my motorcycle released?
The compound authority confirms the exact release documents required — get their list directly and bring your identification. We cannot collect a motorcycle that hasn't been officially released.
Can the towing company settle the compound fees for me?
No. Any fees owed to the compound are settled directly between you and the compound authority. Our job starts after release: collecting and transporting the motorcycle.
